Hiniling ng Department of National Defense (DND) sa kongreso na sibakin na nila ang mga miyembro ng Makabayan Bloc dahil diumano sa koneksyon nito sa CPP-NPA-NDF.
Matatandaan na mayroong anim na miyembro sa kongreso ngayon ang Makabayan Bloc, tatlo mula sa Bayan Muna, isa sa Gabriela at isa sa ACT Teachers.
Ayon kay Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana sa isang panayam ng dzBB Super Radyo ay wala namang ginawa ang nasabing grupo kundi kontrahin ang mga reporma na ginagawa ng gobyerno at pinapalakas lang din lamang nila diumano ang mga rebeldeng komunista.
“That’s one method or way to have them removed from Congress. If you take a look at their history, they’ve done nothing but criticize the government, and while they’re there, the (CPP-NPA-NDF) is only getting stronger… Because they’re a legal front, they think they can do what they want to do…If a legal front is fronting for an illegal organization, like the NPA, it is illegal,” ani Lorenzana.
May simpleng hamon din si Lorenzana sa Makabayan bloc na kung gusto nilang patunayan na wala silang koneksyon sa CPP-NPA-NDF ay dapat lang nilang kondenahin ang mga aktibidad ng mga rebelde.
“We did not invent the term red-tag… If you’re really not part of them, then you have to denounce them,” sabi niya.
Matatandaan na si National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. ay gusto ring pagbawalan ang mga miyembro ng Makabayan bloc na makatakbo sa mga susunod na eleksyon.
“Yes, sinabi ko nga [before] na option ‘yan… pero ginagawa na namin yan. It is not only an option now but we have firmed up our move and we will do that… you can be sure that we will go towards that direction as soon as possible,” sabi ng dating heneral.
Ngunit tila mahihirapan ang gobyerno na patalsikin ang Makabayan bloc sa kongreso dahil mismong ang House Speaker na si Lord Allan Velasco ay kinampihan ang nasabing grupo.
“As Speaker of the House, I am duty-bound to protect them,” ani Velasco.
